My name is Radka. I love everything about food – make it, photograph it, write about it, eat it, you name it… I am always on a lookout for exotic, creative foods. I admire chefs who think outside the box.
I don’t like writing about myself because bios can be boring. So I am just going to write 20 things about me and you can read as far as you want to.
- If I had a dime for every time someone said “Is your name really Vodka?”…
- My last name is Horackova. Horaczech is actually my dad’s name (spelled differently but pronounced Horaczech). I borrowed his name because the “Czech” in his name was just perfect for a Czech blog.
- I was born in former Czechoslovakia.
- I work in New York City and PA.
- I have a twin sister. We’re fraternal. In fact, we’re complete opposites.
- I came to the U.S. as an Au Pair in 2003. I lived with a host family at the Jersey shore. I love them like my own family.
- Prague, NYC, and the Jersey shore are my happy places.
- I (almost) have two bachelor’s degrees – in hospitality management and soon in journalism.
- I worked as a foreign news editor at a Prague’s TV station which no longer exists.
- I love culinary travel and I travel solo most of the time.
- Summer is my favorite season. Although I hide from the sun as I’ve inherited way too many birth marks and freckles from my dad.
- I work out quite a lot. The Tough Mudder is one of the toughest things I’ve ever done and I’d do it again.
- People often ask me if I’m a dancer. I once asked why did they think so. They said: “The posture, the neck…” What the h**k is wrong with my neck?
- I play the guitar. I wish I’d know how to play the piano.
- I have a major sweet tooth. I’m a chocoholic. I do not like sugar in foods other than desserts or sweets dishes, though, so no sweet coffee or sugary cereal for me!
- I enjoy wine, IPAs, bourbon and mezcal.
- I’m a Scorpio. I have a scorpion tattooed on my lower back.
- I can drive a stick.
- I’m a leftie. I don’t play the guitar on the left side like Paul McCartney, though.
- I write in cursive. I recently found out that American kids cannot read my Christmas cards.
